The Chatham Capitol Theatre is reopening for some Christmas movies next week.
A number of safety measures have been put in place. Plexiglass has been installed in certain areas and only 50 people are allowed at each movie showing. Every other row will be blocked off, and people are required to sit with their group, but then space themselves out form the next group. Attendees will be required to wear a mask the whole time, and there will be limited concessions for sale.
People are encouraged to pre-register online. The cost is $5, or people can use their annual movie pass. If you have a 2020 movie pass, you can either get a refund or redeem it for a 2021 movie pass for free. 2021 movie passes are also available for $40.
Here is the schedule for Christmas movies at the theatre:
- Wednesday, December 16 – National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation at 2 or 7 pm.
- Thursday, December 17 – The Holiday at 2 or 7 pm.
- Friday, December 18 – It’s a Wonderful Life at 2 or 7 pm.
- Saturday, December 19 – Polar Express at 2 pm. and Nightmare Before Christmas at 7 pm.
Ontario reported a record-breaking number of new COVID-19 cases for the second straight day Sunday.
1,924 new cases on Sunday, an increase from the 1,859 infections reported on Saturday. It is the first time Ontario has recorded more than 1,900 new COVID-19 cases in a single day.
Toronto and Peel Region reported the most new cases but there was also a spike in York Region. The majority of new cases on were reported in people under the age of 40.
The C-K Public Health Unit doesn’t release numbers on the weekend. A local update will be made public this afternoon.
As of 12:01 this morning, Middlesex-London will move to Orange-Restrict

Windsor-Essex has been in the Red-Control level of the COVID-19 Response Framework since late November. Chatham-Kent is in the Yellow-Protect level.
Effective Monday December 7, Middlesex-London Health Unit and Thunder Bay District Health Unit will move to Orange-Restrict level.

On the night of December 21st, the winter solstice, Jupiter and Saturn will appear so closely aligned in our sky that they will look like a double planet. This close approach is called a conjunction.
They’ll be closer together than they have been since the Middle Ages – You’d have to go all the way back to just before dawn on March 4, 1226, to see a closer alignment.
Look for the Jupiter-Saturn conjunction low in the western sky for about an hour after sunset each evening during this time. According to NASA, while these two planets may appear close, they are still hundreds of millions of miles apart.
If you miss it, don’t worry, it’ll happen again March 15, 2080 and then again after 2400.
Wayne Gretzky is about to set another record.
A mint condition 1979 O-Pee-Chee Gretzky rookie card is expected to become hockey’s first $1-million (U.S.) collectible card, if all goes according to the plan.
There are only a handful of sports cards that have passed the $1-million threshold. This would be the first hockey card to do so.
The Gretzky card is one of 3,700 items that will be on the auction block this week (December 10-13) Online bidding is available now at ha.com.
