January 14th is the 14th day of 2021. There are 351 days remaining until the end of the year


Twelve new COVID19 cases reported Wednesday by Chatham-Kent Public Health, there were 25 recoveries. That drops the number of active cases locally to 119.

There are 6 local patients hospitalized.

Ontario reports 2,961 new positive cases. It’s the third day in a row that it is under 3000. Toronto, Peel, Windsor-Essex, York and Hamilton are the hot spots.


The Municipality of Chatham-Kent is looking at a 3.96% tax increase for 2021.

The increase was proposed last night during the municipal draft budget presentation. Per $100,000 household assessment, it would equal an extra $67 annually.

A large portion of the proposed increase, 2.10%, is allocated towards investing in Chatham-Kent’s infrastructure.

There will now be three community consultation meetings will be held live on the Municipality’s Facebook page on the following dates:

  • Tuesday, January 19 from 12 to 1pm.
  • Wednesday, January 20 from 4 to 5pm.
  • Thursday, January 21 from 6 to 7pm.

These will include a brief presentation from municipal staff and a chance for residents to ask questions about the budget.

The actual budget deliberation meetings will be held on January 27nd, 28th and February 2nd.


The puck dropped on the NHL season last night and C-K’s TJ Brodie’s first game as a Toronto Maple Leaf.

No points for Brodie, but he played over 22 minutes and the Leafs beat the Habs in OT, 5-4.

Rodney’s Bo Horvat had a goal and an assist for the Vancouver Canucks who defeated the Edmonton Oilers last night. Travis Konecny scored for Philadelphia in a win over Pittsburgh.

The Detroit Red Wings (including Sam Gagner, son of Dave) season begins tonight against Carolina.


Oscar Mayer is hiring a new crop of Weinermobile drivers.

You’ll spend a year driving around in a 27-foot-long Weinermobile, going to 200 different events, and serving as a brand ambassador for Oscar Mayer.

They’re looking for people with a degree or experience in marketing or communications who are outgoing, friendly, and have a valid driver’s license.

They didn’t list any salary information, but a few years ago, it was reportedly around $30,000 for the year.
