5 Things You Need To Know

April 29th is the 119th day of 2021. There are 246 days remaining until the end of the year.

Ontario’s finance and labour ministers announced Wednesday the province is introducing a “Worker Protection Benefit” that will allow for qualified workers to receive three paid sick days for full-time and part-time positions.

The Employment Standards Act, if passed, will allow eligible workers to qualify for mental health days and be able to stay home in order to care for relatives or family members sick with COVID-19.

The act still needs approval from the federal government, will raise the federal paid sick day program to $1,000 a week for four weeks.

Six new positive COVID-19 cases reported Wednesday by Chatham-Kent Public Health.

There were 5 recoveries, the total active cases locally to 36.

Chatham-Kent Public Health has updated their vaccination eligibility. If you are an essential caregiver who supports those with an intellectual or developmental disability with daily living assistance, you can now book an appointment at GetYourShotCK.ca or 519-351-1010.

There were 3,480 positive cases reported Tuesday in Ontario. Ontario reports fewer than 4,000 new COVID-19 cases for the fourth consecutive day.

Apollo 11 astronaut Michael Collins, who piloted the ship from which Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin left to make their historic first steps on the moon in 1969, died Wednesday of cancer. He was 90.

Collins was part of the three-man Apollo 11 crew that ended the space race between the United States and Russia.

Though he traveled some 238,000 miles to the moon and came within 69 miles, Collins never set foot on the lunar surface. Collins spent the eight-day mission piloting the command module, while Armstrong and Aldrin descended to the moon’s surface in the lunar lander. Collins was alone for nearly 28 hours before Armstrong and Aldrin finished their tasks. Had something gone wrong and Aldrin and Armstrong been stuck on the moon’s surface — a real fear — Collins would have returned to Earth alone.

Collins was nominated for Outstanding Cinematography For A Nonfiction Program in 2020 for the footage he shot in space during the 1969 mission.

Netflix is introducing Play Something, which is basically a shuffle button for TV shows.

The shuffle-play feature is designed to help users instantly find a new show or movie to dig into — instead of manually scrolling through Netflix’s menus. It’s something Netflix has been testing in various forms for two years.

“Whether you’re in the mood for a new or familiar favorite, just ‘Play Something’ and let Netflix handle the rest.”

When Netflix users click the “Play Something” button, the service will start streaming a series or film based on what they’ve watched before. If whatever pops up isn’t to your liking, you can click on “Play Something Else.” The titles surfaced will be either something a user has never watched before; a series or film they were already watching; or a title on their watchlist.

Play Something is initially available on TVs, and Netflix says it will launch the feature on its Android mobile app soon. For now, Netflix doesn’t have details on when Play Something will be available on iOS devices.

On TVs, the Play Something button shows up in three areas: Underneath your profile name on startup, in the 10th row on your Netflix homepage, and in the navigation menu on the left of the screen.
