5 Things You Need To Know

July 27th is the 208th day of 2021. There are 157 days remaining until the end of the year.


Big jump in active cases after 8 new positive COVID-19 cases were reported from the weekend by Chatham-Kent Public Health.

There were no recoveries, the total active case count is up to 14.

There were 119 positive cases across Ontario Monday. It is the lowest daily increase of new infections in two weeks and the province has reported fewer than 200 cases for 18 straight days.


Another couple of medals for Canada at the Olympics.

Lasalle’s Kylie Masse has won silver in the women’s 100-metre backstroke. Canada’s third swimming medal in Tokyo.

Team Canada has its first Olympic medal in softball. Canada defeated Mexico 3-2 to win bronze.

And another bronze in Judo, this time for Catherine Beauchemin-Pinard  in the 63kg event.

So far Canada has 1 Gold, 3 Silvers and 3 Bronze (as of 5:45am)


Traditionally the Chatham Maroons home games were Sunday evenings. That’ll change this season.

Sunday games will move from 7pm to 3:30pm, in what the team hopes is a move to bring more families to the arena. There is still no indication from officials on how many fans will be allowed back in yet.

The first regular-season home game is scheduled for September 26 at 3:30 p.m. with the team noting that the “dates are subject to change based on COVID regulations at that time.”


The CN Tower is going to get a makeover.

The project will “modernize” the tower’s outdoor terrace and maximize year-round indoor viewing capacity with a whole new renovated space. The additions will include an “uninterrupted glass floor” and interactive video walls that will allow guests to engage in ways they never have before. It will also feature floor-to-ceiling glass window walls that will offer great views” of the city.

The redesigned space has a budget of $21 million and is scheduled to open next summer.


Google is testing a new feature that allows people to add their names to waitlists at restaurants.

They are hoping the feature will eliminate the need to call restaurants and make a reservation.
