The Wheatley evacuation zone is about to be reduced again. The evacuation zone was set up after last summer’s gas explosion in the downtown area.

The original zone was first reduced in early April. There will still be a handful of residential properties in the smaller zone, but most of the buildings will be businesses and rental properties.

There are a few other steps that need to be completed before the zone reduction, the municipality also needs to finish a gas-monitoring plan and update security protocols and installing new fencing.

The GOJHL Sutherland Cup Round Robin schedule has been set.

The Chatham Maroons open the round robin tonight at home against the Golden Horseshoe champion St. Catherines Falcons.

On May 22nd, the Maroons will host the Midwestern Conference Champs, the Cambridge RedHawks.

The top two teams from the round robin will advance to a best-of-3 series to decide the Sutherland Cup champion.

For the first time in three years there will be in person celebrations in Ottawa for Canada Day, but they will not be happening on Parliament Hill.

Because of construction on the Parliament Buildings Centre Block, Canadian Heritage announced on Monday that the festivities have been moved to LeBreton Flats park just west of the downtown.

Parliament Hill has been the site of the Canada Day main stage for more than 50 years. Canada Day celebrations were held virtually the past two summers because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Centre Block construction project is expected to be finished between 2030 and 2031. The $5-billion project is the largest and most complex rehabilitation project in Canadian history.

There’s a new colab with Justin Bieber and Tim Horton’s.

After teaming up last November to release a limited edition lineup of Timbiebs Timbits, they’re getting together to release Biebs Brew; a new French Vanilla Cold Brew.

The Timbiebs are back too: Chocolate White Fudge, Sour Cream Chocolate Chip and Birthday Cake Waffle.

The November collaboration was a raging success, leading to a huge boost in sales for Tim’s.

Biebs Brew will be available at Tims restaurants on June 6th.
