Tuesday morning Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced that Monday, September 19th will be a federal holiday and a day of mourning as Queen Elizabeth II is buried in the U.K.
Trudeau and Gov. Gen. Mary Simon are both set to travel to the U.K. for the Queen’s state funeral.
Other Commonwealth countries have already announced holidays to commemorate the Queen’s passing: the United Kingdom will have a bank holiday Monday for the funeral, marking the final day of the 10 days of mourning, and Australia and New Zealand will have public holidays on September 22 and 26 respectively.
Also Tuesday, Ontario Premier Doug Ford announced that there will not have provincial holiday on Monday to mark Queen’s death.
Instead, the province will mark the day as a provincial Day of Mourning in lieu of a provincial holiday, with a moment of silence scheduled at 1:00pm that day to remember Queen Elizabeth II.
So it will be a holiday for federal government employees. Federally regulated employers are welcomed to follow suit, but they are not required to do so.

Summer got off to a late start, and the pattern continues with warmer temperatures into the new season. It does look like the hot and humid weather that much of the region experienced this summer may soon be over as the temperatures slowly decline. A comfortable, warm, crisp, fall-like weather does look like it’s in store.
The big change will come in November as the cooler weather arrives.
The Weather Network believes there is a chance we may see a strong fall storm or two before the weather turns cold, but precipitation levels for southwestern and midwestern Ontario will be near normal. The region may see some measurable snow in November, but nothing that will pack a punch.

Chatham-Kent is looking for some creative names for six more snowplows this winter season.
Last year, more than 1,000 names were submitted to the contest and over 5,300 votes were cast. Anita Shovel came in first place.
The nomination period is now open online at Let’s Talk Chatham-Kent.
This phase will be open for at least two weeks before municipal officials narrow the list down to 25 names. The public will then vote to decide the top six names, one for each ward across Chatham-Kent.
The cost of creating the signs on each of the renamed snowplows is being covered by WINMAR through sponsorship.
